The Chronicles of Nani On Video

I am overcoming my inability to type with my ability to talk (and talk and talk and talk) I'll be posting a video every week on my YouTube channel. I'll be posting those videos here too along with an occasional regular blog in the mix. (As long as my hands are up to doing the extra typing.)

You'll be able to watch the videos here, but I encourage you to stop by my channel at YouTube once I'm up and running to follow me and get my numbers started!

Vintage Thingie Thursday – Post Cards

Honeymoon Postcards, 1965

I don’t know if there is a definitive age that makes something “vintage.” I read on one of the other bloggers in VTT last week that she considered vintage to be older than her. I think I feel the same way. Even if vintage starts at 50, I’m 45, so if it’s older than me, it’s close enough!

I’m sure these postcards predate any essence of me because I was born 19 days after my parent’s first anniversary. The postcards are from their honeymoon! These were sent to my Great Grandmother while they were in Europe.

The Queen Elizabeth

The ship is the Queen Elizabeth and it’s the boat my parents sailed on. They had plenty of newlywed time to themselves, but on the trip, they were traveling with my paternal grandparents, aunt and uncle. Dad was taking his new bride to meet the rest of the family in San Marino!

Republic of San Marino

The Republic of San Marino is where my Dad was born. The family immigrated to the United States when he was 13. Actually, he turned 13 on the boat on his way here. I was there when I was 13 and saw pictures from a recent trip my Dad made. There is a lot that’s modern inside the buildings, but it still looks the same as it did in 1965!

San Marino is NOT in Italy. It is an independent republic that’s surrounded by Italy. They speak Italian, but the passports are San Marinese and until the change to the Euro, they minted their own money too. The San Marino lire and the Italian Lire spent the same in both countries.

Trevi Fountain, Rome

The third postcard is from Rome. It’s the Trevi Fountain, of Three Coins in the Fountain fame! The post mark is from The Vatican.

Thanks for joining me for a little retelling some stories I’ve been told about a time before me!

What great post cards! The only antique that I might have is something that I bought. Many years ago, my collection of memorabilia was destroyed. So I really enjoy seeing your collection and the stories that go with it. You have a wonderful day, hugs, Edna B.

I LOVE vintage postcards! Yours are so special with the family connection. I've never been on the Queen Elizabeth. Been on the Queen Mary 2 though. What a wonderful post! Thanks so much for sharing and visiting!
Cheers!

I love the post cards!! In this day and age they are especially relevant when traveling. After all you can buy anything you want on the internet so why not bring back the post cards from your world travels. I did when we were in France.

I love your postcards and the story behind them. How charming and interesting. I agree that vintage is hard to define. Some things are just plain old! Thanks for visiting Cottage and Creek too. Have a great weekend.

Those are so neat! I'm a postcard collector so it's fun to see all the unique ones out there! Thanks so much for visiting my blog today!

I would like to invite you to my weekend linkup. It involves anything related to homemaking: recipes, sewing, decorating, crafts, DIY, a story about what you did today, etc! There’s a button at the top of my sidebar you can grab to help you to remember to come back each week. This week’s link up will be posted shortly after midnight tonight PST!

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

I’m a beginning postcard collector. What is truly neat is when you have one that has been sent through the mail and you can read about the journey.

I’m a follower now

I always look for vintage postcards and love to read the backs when there is writing. You found some really neat ones, especially the ship. Happy VTT
