The Chronicles of Nani On Video

I am overcoming my inability to type with my ability to talk (and talk and talk and talk) I'll be posting a video every week on my YouTube channel. I'll be posting those videos here too along with an occasional regular blog in the mix. (As long as my hands are up to doing the extra typing.)

You'll be able to watch the videos here, but I encourage you to stop by my channel at YouTube once I'm up and running to follow me and get my numbers started!

My Vintage Kitchen

This week for Vintage Thingie Thursday, I'd like to introduce you to the home of Davinities! My kitchen.

Now before you start to question how vintage my kitchen can be, my Keurig Brewer sits on top of the microwave that's plugged in with an adapter because there are no three-prong outlets in our 1950s kitchen!

It's a 1950s era house and with the exception of the oven and garbage disposal, the built-in appliances, plumbing and tile are all original. David's ex repainted the cupboard doors and added the matching paint on the walls, but the pink tiles were originally there.

The electric stove was state-of-the-art at the time the house was built, now it's a sweet, and still used, antique!

The buttons on the back wall for the stove are labeled to let you know to which burner they correspond. The temperatures are a little challenging to control. Before I came to Toledo, I used a very controllable Jenn-Air, so the vintage stove took some getting used to, but now I don't even think about it. I just know that the setting I use most starts on 2, then turns down to three and goes up and down a few times to cook a steak or heat a can of soup.

In all of the short-comings of not having a lot of the modern touches, like a dishwasher, it makes up for it with its charm.

As long as I can plug in my Keurig Maker, all is good!

Cute....It's sad when people move in and rip vintage out.

I love your kitchen. It is so charming and I am glad you still have all the vintage touches. I have to say, they don't make appliances like they did back then, just imagine how great it is for that stove to still work and if it was new, might last a couple of years.

We had a vintage oven at our cabin, and I wanted to keep it there. A part went out and we searched ALL OVER THE NATION for the replacement part. Ended up having to buy a new one as the maker was out of business and no parts could be found that would work. I just hope the new oven last a few years.....I wonder about that!

Happy VTT!

Good morning. I must say, I love your vintage kitchen, pink tiles and all. It makes you want to sit and chat over a cup of coffee. Back in the 50's, our homes were designed to be inviting.

I've been catching up on your last few blog posts, and I love your photos. That barn is exquisite. It sort looks like "Mommy Barn" carrying "Baby Barn". I guess I never really stopped and looked long enough to notice if many barns had this "cupola" on top. I really like this photo. Especially with the old truck peeking out.

That's an amazing pile leaves in your front yard!! Gosh, imagine all the fun some little kids could have with that pile!!

It's time to feed Tootsie now, and get dressed. We have errands to do. You have a wonderful day. Hugs, Edna B.

My oven has been in since 1964, not as old as yours. When it goes, will he to cut out cabinet, as they do not make that size anymore. The things made years ago, were better products. If it is not broken, do not fix it.

Oh it's pink! I love it so much! It reminds me a bit of the house I grew up in (1950s era) with the tile backsplash and separate stove top and wall oven.

Lucky you to have such a cute kitchen. I don't mean to plug my Swedish Weaving tutorial but I swear such a towel would look PERFECT in your kitchen.

Rarely is there a true vintage kitchen left. Loved seeing yours. I'm following. Have a great day (it snowed here last night, first of the season).

Lovely! I've noticed that pink seems to be coming into favor again so you're retro and stylin' at the same time :) I use a 1950 Tappan gas range and love it. It's my "new" old stove.

What a fun kitchen. I'm a fan of old appliances and think they were so much better made. If they work, I'd keep them as long as possible. Happy to be following you back. Have a nice weekend.
