Vote For Me...Please??
No, I am NOT bribing you!!!The voting has started at Stone Accents Studio. It’s been a disappointing start for me, but judging from the number of comments and downloads of other kits, I’m not surprised. I just don’t quite have my finger on the digital scrapbooking community’s pulse. I’m not dead yet, but at current rate, I’m liable to just skate by if I do make it to the next round. If you are a member at SAS or if you’d consider joining, please vote for me? My bruised ego would be grateful. If I am going to make it to round two, I’d prefer if I feel I at least had a chance of making it farther to feel inspired for round two! :)
You can go to the voting at SAS here. You can vote for as many as you like, but they’d prefer everyone to pick 3 or 4. I would really love it if I was one of yours!!
Interesting day in the Catdom. We took Baggle in to see the vet this morning. He’s had some trauma at the litter box and the he developed a spot where his fur was thinning on his back. The vet checked him out and said she believes it’s allergies. They are sending out the littler box sample to be checked and she gave him a steroid shot. On the way home, I asked David if he thought Baggle would be able to hit a home run now. ;)
When we got back, I let Baggle out of the carrier, a much happier boy because he was home! Kaline wasn’t so happy a girl though! There was a little sniffing, then some whining and even some hissing! David and I think that maybe the shot mixed in with Baggle’s chemistry enough to make his scent a little off. Kaline was acting like, “Okay, who are you and what did you do with my brother?”
David is home this week on vacation. The weather wasn’t up to snuff anywhere to justify the gas and lodging in his opinion, so he’s home. It’s a little distracting having him here during, my daily job-hunting stuff, but I’m glad for the company at lunch time.
Now, I have to finish up the designing part of a collab kit I’m doing and off to scrap a page or two!

Add-on for Letters From Home
Boy, keeping up with everything in my world right now is kinda hectic! I job hunt during the day, taking breaks like I wold during a regular workday, but even an hour lunch isn’t enough time to do any serious designing. So, I design and scrap by night and on the weekends. It’s just organizing everything right now so I can competently keep up!
I’ve been getting nice comments on “Letters From Home” at SAS. I don’t know if those comments will translate into votes, but I’m hopeful. I’d really like to make it to the next round, but there really are some talented people in this competition! I like the challenges!
I am encouraging everyone who is a member at SAS to vote. If you are a scrapper and not a member of Stone Accents Studio, I encourage you to join! They have great designers there, and I’m not just saying that because Darlene sells her wares there, she is a great example of SAS’s quality! Several designers’ blogs in the margin of The Chronicles are SAS designers! THe other thing that is wonderful at SAS is the challenges. They have great challenges and the more you do, the more mega your posting bonus kit is. Most of the challenge prizes are created from one swatch and theme for a team mega kit. What an awesome concept, huh?
Voting has officially started and ENDS on the 11th. I was so worried about the deadline for getting my kit in that I mistook the end of voting for the beginning! Glad I got that straightened out! You can vote for as many designers as you like, but you can only vote one once. Of course, whether you are a member or thinking about joining, if you like what you see in “Letters From Home,” I humbly ask for your support by selecting me as one of your choices in the competition!
Here is the add-on for “Letters From Home.” I wanted to get this out to everyone before the next level of the competition starts! It’s just a few extra pieces for the kit. Included are 1 paper that I was pretty pleased with, a title postmark, a child art doodle, a frame and son and daughter stamps to go with the Mommy/Daddy and Husband/Wife stamps in the kit.

Monday Mug Shot
Savannah River QueenSavannah, Georgia
Mom and I rode the Savannah River Queen at the beginning of Christmastime in 1993. That trip was when I really realized that I didn’t require snow for it to feel like Christmas!
We left to go south Friday morning after Thanksgiving, taking advantage of the holiday to add another day to a one-week vacation. Our travels took us through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, my first time really driving in the mountains using the low gear on my Camaro mountain car and venturing onto the Blue Ridge Parkway, where we drove trough a cloud! That was quite cool! Steep roads, no guard rails and stopping at an overlook to look dow on the clouds!
We spent a couple days a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina before moving on to Savannah. ne thing I loved about Savannah was those pralines! We stayed on Tybee Island and went back into Savannah to sight see. We took the trolley to get around. I did fin in the mountains, but a couple of times driving a sports car on the cobblestone streets was enough for me! The trolley stopped at River Street Sweets, where they make the most heavenly of the classic Savannah confection and ant everyone to know about it! When the trolley stopped, a representative of the candy shop cae onboard to welcome visitors and suggest to stop here and pick up the next trolley to go on. He bait the travelers with praline samples! Mom and I were getting off the trolley there anyway because it was the stop for the riverboat and RIver Street Sweets was on our itinerary anyway!
The Savannah River Queen ports in the Savannah RIver. Mom and I took the afternoon sightseeing cruise with Santa. The ride was quite cool up the Savannah River and back, seeing the industry ports, fishing boats and beautiful parks ad bed ad breakfasts near the riverfront. It was the beginning of December, sunny, warm with just a slight coolness in the gentle breeze and we were drifting down the river in a riverboat decorated with pine garland and red bows with Christmas music playing. A different Christmas picture for this girl from the north, but no less Christmas than a carriage ride in the snow at Greenfield Village in Michigan.
Then the kicker of the boat trip, out visit from Santa! I know that the “Santas” you see down here, especially during Santas “crunch time” between Thanksgiving and the big night are the cream of the crop of the down below elves and ot Santa himself. Remember I worked for him as a management level elf when I lived in Michigan. I also know that his representatives in other parts of the world speak different languages. Santa himself speaks like 30-some different languages. But, in all of my years, I had never seen Santa's likeness and heard a southern accent! Santa had candy canes for everyone and after a brief chat with the adults as he was making his rounds with the candy canes, he sat with the kids for the duration of the trip.
When we went back to the are of the trolley stop, there was the rep from the candy store with more samples! This time we went in and bought 2 boxes. One to enjoy on the rest of our trip and one to bring home to add to the Christmas goodies. It was a festive trip that showed me what I really “needed” for it to feel like Christmas. I realized on that trip that Christmas lights decorating the boat and streets in Savannah were what made it the holiday season to me. It’s the light in your heart not the snow on the ground that make it Christmas!

My First Round Kit
Yesterday was my power-designing day. I had my idea, a couple elements and two papers done. So the goal was to finish up the kit and get it uploaded. Well, the computer crashing while saving about 80% of the preview at almost 2 AM told me that I’d settle for almost and finish up this morning. So, I woke up and did the preview, stuffing and uploading even before my first cup of coffee! That’s dedication, huh? Actually, I like this preview better than the one that got swallowed up by the spinning wheel of doom last night anyway!
As I was saying about my somewhat prophetic inspiration when I was photographing the post office in Leaf River, many of you know, my theme kits all share their names with song titles. John Michael Montgomery does a song called “Letters From Home,” a beautiful song about how soldiers depend on that connection with home when they are on the front lines. You may have heard it here in the selection on my online iPod. I was truly inspired! I have a page of notes in my travel journal and wondered if I’d have any time to develop it during the contest. I thought a kit reminding us to remember our troops would be a great pre-Thanksgiving release. Then I read the email from SAS about the first round.
Imagine the goose bumps! The first round for the Stone Accents Studio Designer Contest is “Heroes,” a perfect opportunity to develop my new idea into a kit! The voting for this round will start on September 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States, but the kits don’t have to be military or American to fit the theme. There are some great kits already there about police, fire and health care providers.
So here is the preview for my hero kit, round one in the competition, “Letters From Home.” I am pleased with it. I don’t think I embarrassed myself at all!
My favorite element of the whole kit is the helmet frame, with a space inside for a photo, just like many men and women in the service carry their photos of loved ones in the field. Number two would be the stamps! I am particularly proud of the theme papers in this kit. My papers are something I really need to work on and I've been putting that effort in for the last few kits Ive done.
Because it’s for the contest, downloads for this kit are only a Stone Accents Studio. If you follow the link it will take you to the “Letters From Home” gallery page there.
